He came with the sound of breaking icecubes. Sunlight gleamed silver-quick over the planes and curves of his body and face, sparked crystalline off the ridges of his perma-frost hair.

“Boo!” he said at the end of a loop that carried him over and in front of Jean.

“Hey, kiddo,” Jean said, as she cut around him. She gave the keys hanging off her index finger a whirl.

“You’re going to Sam's, right?”

“Sure thing.”

Shedding ice, he fell into step beside her and said, “Good.”

"Coming with?"

"Yep."

"We out of candy, already?"

"Just the good stuff."
